squeezy

Design challenge

User experience was more connected to digital products (e.g. websites and softwares). How could we design user experience in physical products and tangible interaction? Squeezy was an experimental design which can potentially provide infinite feedforward and feedback to users. We wanted to explore how user experience and interaction would be like in physical products in the future.

Tangible interaction design

Material research

Design Process

To design the squeezy toy with new experience, we explored and identified the experience we wanted users to have through analyzing our experience with daily objects. Then, we explored possible materials that could represent the experience. After determining the material we needed, we researched deeper into the material for design. Eventually, we prototyped with the material to evaluate if the prototype could deliver the feeling we wanted to have.

reflection

Physical user experience and interaction relied more on material as it was the major input and output intermediate of users, which was the great difference against digital design. The quality of material, shape and other factors could play an important role in user experience. Cognitive load would decrease in interaction however may increase when users wanted to figure out the meaning of the interaction as there was no semantic clue of the design.
